Hey! Greetings from Funk Records, a new trading post for new and used vinyl located in beautiful Downtown Red Bank (coming to Westfield really soon). We’ve been ever-so-proudly selling records for a short time now, & are way happy with the response; serving music lovers with clean, warm and wonderful vinyl at the best prices ever. Funk’s old-school brick & mortar, hands-on, fair approach to moving precious vinyl from people who no longer want it to people who do is what will make us your one stop vinyl shop. We feel records are one of the last of an important piece of 20th century pop culture. While Walkmans (ha!), CDs, computers, mp3 players & the digital force (God knows what’s next) has taken over not only the airwaves, but our minds as well, we are still left with millions of beautiful, tangible, sweet sounding records anxiously awaiting the place they belong, on our turntables. (Just like adorable little orphans waiting to find a home. aw.) So do something good for society & for the environment. Let’s stop creating more consumables; let’s use what we’ve got! Let’s trade, collect, mix-up, mash-up, enjoy the graphics, compare, contrast, debate, learn, & fall madly in love; YES, let’s collect records! All the cool people do it! Then you will become a record Geek. Then you can say you’re cool too. So there.

A Little History
Funk & Standard began on the premise that our visitors would leave the store a happier version of themselves then when they arrived. To heighten their senses through an awesome mix of goods, sights, sound, smells & making you smile. Funk arrived on the scene at a time when the huge chain stores were mercilessly swallowing up independent stores and local mom & pops, depriving communities across the country of a personal relationship with their retailers, and putting the kabash on the opportunity to discover a whole world of goods beyond what corporate retailers selected them to see (mostly based on spreadsheet calculations). No Funk department better emphasizes this theory then our records, which has, since the beginning been a part of the overall vision. Funk & Standard arose out of that community of non-conformist types that wanted a better place to shop than a corporate chain store — one with the best selection, better service, and more respect for people’s ideas and lives. We hold no grudges; some large chains (like Starbucks & Whole Foods) make amazing things happen with their prosperity, just sayin. So together, with you, we are that community of independent creative-types and listeners that wanted something more, and with that we’ve been able to take root and thrive in one of New Jersey’s most amazing cities. We’re humbled by and thankful for the continuing support and success we’ve found in trying to create a store and a venue that’s worthy of great music & so much more. So keep shopping here so we can open more stores & spread even more happy & good things!
Take me through the selling process, please.
